The Vintage

The 2003 growing season was warmer than average with and extended Indian summer. This coupled with the ideal growing conditions for Sangiovese in the Yakima Valley produced this big and robust wine. The late October harvest date also allowed for further development, maturation, of the fruit.

The Grapes

The Sangiovese was hand-harvested on the 28th of October from our own Kestrel View Estate Vineyard. The vines are fan trained to spread out the fruiting zone and maximize the fruits exposure to the sun.

The Winemaking

What makes the Sangiovese special is right after the grapes were de-stemmed and crushed in the fermenter, 15% of the juice was drawn off. This practice intensifies the color and flavors of the remaining wine by increasing the skin to juice ratio. The resulting wine is darker and richer in body and structure.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine possesses a deep ruby red color and intense aromas of black cherry, sour cherry, and blackberry. On the palate you will experience an extremely full bodied and well balanced Sangiovese, with notes of vanilla, cedar and leather, intertwined with the dark cherry and blackberry. Because of the naturally high acidity of Sangiovese this wine is the perfect accompaniment to food.
