Kestrel Wines Rated Best in Washington
FEBRUARY 20-2006 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Leo Kirk, National Sales Manager
The 2002 Kestrel Vintners Signature Edition Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2004 Signature Edition Chardonnay Ice Wine were named Best Cabernet Sauvignon and Best Dessert Wine in the inaugural Washington CEO "Best of Washington Wines 2006" tasting event.
Washington CEO magazine commissioned ten of the Northwest's top sommeliers to blind taste wines from Washington wineries. Wines were sampled in six categories and the Kestrel Cabernet Sauvignon ranked number one on the list of thirty Cabs with a score of 91.8. The Kestrel Chardonnay Ice Wine received a score of 92.0 - the number one wine in the Dessert category.
Kestrel GM Mike Birdlebough was pleased with the recognition. "Flint Nelson, our winemaker, and his staff have been working very hard to bring the beauty of our old vines to life in the bottle. Both the Cab and the Chardonnay are from vines planted in 1972. The intensity of flavor and the complexity are marvelous!"
"In addition, our ultra premium Cab finished ninth in the same Cabernet category, our 2004 Chardonnay finished sixth and our 2002 Syrah finished seventh in their respective categories. That speaks volumes about the consistent quality of the Kestrel lineup," Birdlebough added.
Washington CEO magazine, the sponsor of the "Best of Washington 2006" tasting event, serves as the only statewide business magazine targeting Washington's business owners, top-level managers and executives. The magazine serves not only as a resource to learn about regional business trends taking place, but also to gain insight into the personalities shaping the region's economy. ***
